Tip: The Internal Revenue Service updated Form 5558 in June, 2001. When filing Form 5558 to extend the due date for filing Form 5500, it is not necessary to insert the reason the extension is needed at line 3. If filing Form 5558 to extend the filing deadline for Form 5330, however, line 3 must be completed.
